KARACHI, July 6: The Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority has enhanced the entry fees and charges on vehicles engaged in harbour.
According to a KFHA notification, the fees and charges are revised after every 10 years keeping in view the increasing operation charges and development expenditure.
At present the KFHA is collecting fees and revenues under the KFHA Control and Management Regulations which were framed in 1992 and have not been revised for the last 10 years.
Under the new structure, the KFHA will also issue computerised identity cards at the rate of Rs15 each for one year. In case of loss of identity card, Rs30 will be charged for issuance of the new card.
The entry fees for transporters per trip varies depending on the mode of transportation. For example, a trailer with a container will be charged Rs200 instead of Rs100 and a trailer without a container will be charged Rs100 instead of Rs50.
Similarly oil tanker (double) will be charged Rs1000, oil tanker single Rs500, crane (big) Rs500, crane (small) Rs100, trash truck Rs20 and water tanker Rs15.
An entry fees will also be charged on vehicles such as camel and donkey cards, motorcycles,taxi,jeep and car ranging from rupee one to Rs10.
Under the new system, token for commercial and non-commercial vehicles will also be issued on annual basis. Accordingly, a six-wheeler vehicles (ice-trash truck) commercial will be charged Rs1000 each, but water tankers will be charged Rs600 per year.
In the same way four wheelers (Suzuki, Datsun and pick-up) commercial will be charged Rs600 each per year but the private four wheelers (non-commercial) will be charged Rs200 each per year.
The KFHA has also revised the fishing licence fees and registration fees of different services.
MOVE OPPOSED: Meanwhile, boat owners and mole-holders in a petition have urged the chairman of the KFHA termed the decision of the KFHA managing director as injustice and arbitrary and against the main object of providing facilities to the persons engaged in different ways and means with the fish industry.
They said the entry fees, charges, registration, berthing charges for different kinds of vehicles have been increased so high that it would ruin the fish industry.
They called upon the chairman to set aside the notification of the KFHA and save the fish industry from devastation. The petition was signed by Khan Mir (fish auctioneer), Nisar Mohammad (ice dealer), Mohammad Hasan (boat owner) and Fariduddin (mole-holder).
