ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: Pakistan’s ambassador to United Nations, Shamshad Ahmed has said that Pakistan respects all UN resolutions and believes in their implementation.

“Pakistan is a very responsible member of the United Nations. It has always respected the UN resolutions and has always believed that all these resolutions should be implemented,” the ambassador told VOA.

He said, “We have always complained that the UN passes resolutions but are not being implemented fully.”

He said it was a difficult but the right decision taken by the Pakistani government to side with the world community in its campaign against terrorism.

He said Pakistan too has been the victim of terrorism. Innocent people are being killed in Pakistan in bomb blasts almost every other day.

He said the terrorist attack on WTC killed people belonging to many countries that is why the entire world is united against terrorism.

Mr Ahmed said that terrorism is like cancer, its roots are spread all over the world in every society. So a permanent cure is the needed.

He said that terrorism is the price the world is paying for its past oppression and injustices. “There is still time for us to change our approach and our thinking.”

“We should abolish all kinds of injustices whether on the political or economic level,” he added.

On India’s attitude in the present circumstances he said that today, when the entire world is facing the universal challenge of terrorism, India is trying to exploit the situation.

Referring to the recent hijack drama he said, two days before the incident, there were reports that RAW was planning to stage a hijacking drama and blame it on Kashmiri Mujahideen.

Mr Ahmed said that the independence struggle going on in Kashmir for the past 13 years is purely indigenous. It is the Kashmiri people who are fighting the war of independence.

The Kashmiri people are the victims of Indian oppression and brutality and they want freedom from Indian occupation, he said.—APP
