BAHAWALNAGAR, July 2: A man was killed while three members of his family sustained injuries in a landmine explosion in a border village in Fortabbas tehsil on Tuesday.

The children of Nazir Ahmad, a resident of Chak 77, were playing with the landmine in his house when it exploded. Nazir died on the spot while his wife Najma, son Shabbir, 6, and daughter Ramzana, 8, sustained serious injuries.

The injured were taken to hospital where doctors described their condition as serious.

It could not be known how the landmine reached Nazir’s house.

TC BUDGET: The Chishtian tehsil council approved Rs90.701 million budget for the fiscal year 2002-03 on Tuesday.

The council imposed no new tax but increased a few government fees.

The expected income is Rs90.701 million while expenditures are Rs88.637 million.

Nazim Tahir Bashir Cheema told newsmen that installation of 14 telephone exchanges in the tehsil was in progress, work on two water reservoirs for Noorpura and Husain Colony has already started and nine new tubewells would be installed to overcome potable water shortage.

DEATH AWARDED: Two murderers were sentenced to death with fine.

Convict Irshad Husain killed Shahzad Ahmad over a petty issue.

In the other case, Zahoor Ahmad was awarded death penalty and Rs50,000 fine with 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment. He will have to pay Rs10,000 as Diyat to the family of victim Yasin.

EXHUMATION: A court ordered exhumation of the body of Manzooran of Minchinabad.

Manzoor Ahmad of Takhat Mahal filed an application in the court that his sister Manzooran was buried by her husband Akhtar Shah in mysterious circumstances. He said his family was not informed about the death of his sister.

He suspected that Akhtar had murdered his sister.

The court appointed Minchinabad judicial magistrate to supervise exhumation of the body.
