KARACHI, July 2: An elderly man suffered a heart attack in a police station on Tuesday when policemen allegedly harassed and abused him on a civil matter pending in a court of law.

Sources said Mohammed Idrees, whose daughter had filed a property and divorce case with a court, was called at North Nazimabad police station where policemen pressured him to go for an out-of-court settlement of the matter and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to do so.

The man said the matter was of civil nature and pending in a court of law, so it should be decided by the court. His reply allegedly provoked sub- inspector Qasim and Jabir Bangash who badly abused and harassed him.

He could not bear the rude behaviour of the policemen and suffered a heart attack.

When this report was filed on Tuesday midnight the man was on his way to a hospital.

CAR JACKING: As many as 14 vehicles — four cars and ten motorbikes — were taken away by bandits on Tuesday, police sources said.

A car was hijacked and three others stolen in various parts of the city.

Bandits took away five motorcycles at gunpoint. Five others were stolen in different localities, including Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Saddar, North Karachi and Liaquatabad.
