BAGRAM AIR BASE, July 1: US soldiers in Afghanistan have been told to anticipate possible attacks around July 4, the first post-Sept 11 US Independence Day, a senior US military spokesman said on Monday.

“We ask them... to be more alert,” Lt Col Roger King told reporters at this coalition air base, near Kabul.

“We know that many times terrorist organizations like to tie their activities to dates.

“So whenever we have a significant date or when we feel it might be a significant date to them,” the troops have to be extra alert, King said.—AFP
