KARACHI, July 1: Eight ships carrying containers, chemicals and rock phosphate are expected to arrive at the outer anchorage on Tuesday, according to KPT sources.
An identical number of ships was berthed as the port authorities made arrangement to cope with the rush of incoming vessels. The ships, which were berthed included PONL Singapore, Pretty River, Lanka Mahapola and Bunga Masempat to unload and load containers, Seevetam, to unload and load general cargo, Nememcha to offload fertilizer, Stolt Sakra and Keefan to unload chemical and high speed diesel respectively.
The activity at the port is expected to gather further momentum because of inward rush of foreign flag vessels.
Four ships, Jamila, Lanka Mahapola, Steller Kohinoor and Nik Mary departed, while Seevetam, Stolt Sakra, Ievoli Shine, Ponl Singapore, Ponl Maliridi, Keefan and Pretty River are due to sail out on Tuesday.
A total tonnage of 52,387 tons comprising 6,947 tons of export cargo and 45,440 tons of import cargo was handled.
The following ships are due on Tuesday: Botany Triton, with chemicals, Al-Maqwa, with high speed diesel, Global Power, Kota Salam, L.T. Loading and APL Portugal, with containers, Arafat with steel pipes, Iran Modares, with rock phosphate.
