Euro zigzags

LONDON, July 1: The euro zigzagged towards parity against the dollar on Monday on a groundswell of concern about the outlook for the US economy and corporate world after a string of accounting scandals.

The euro struggled to hit the symbolic one-to-one level, but economists said that it was only a matter of when, not if, the single European currency regained an equal footing to the greenback.

The single European currency rose as high as 0.9971 dollars, but later eased back to 0.9901 dollars, against 0.9919 late on Friday in New York.—AFP
