FAISALABAD, June 28: An army Major was reportedly shot dead on Thursday night by his subordinate Captain in Chak 60-GB in the limits of Buchiana police post, some 54 kms from here.

A well-placed source said that a platoon of an army unit SNT-40 had been deputed in the area for the last couple of months in the wake of tension on borders with India. On Thursday night, Maj Ashraf exchanged heated words with Capt Nisar Alam over some minor dispute. The captain could not pocket his insult and opened fire on his superior with his official pistol some time after the altercation. Maj Ashraf sustained bullet wounds on his chest and fell on the ground. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

High-ups of the army unit rushed to the spot and arrested Capt Nisar Alam. The body of the deceased was immediately shifted to some unknown place, the source disclosed.

He said some senior police officers of the Faisalabad Range also reached the spot, but they were not permitted to enter in the cordoned area of military.

A high ranking police official on the condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.
