KARACHI, June 27: The Sindh Katchi Abadi Authority is contemplating to get the Essa Goth, located in F.B. Area, Karachi, vacated and construct a multi-storeyed building. The village is spread over 1.5 acres of land where 107 families are living.
The SKAA initially wanted to construct multi-storeyed building on the plot and accommodate the dwellers of the Katchi Abadi in these flats on subsidized rates, and the remaining flats can be offered to the residents of non-regularizable Katchi Abadis or disposed of through auction, but the dwellers of Essa Goth did not agree to this proposal, official sources told newsmen.
The Director General, SKAA, Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui, had informed the governing body of the authority in its meeting held on April 8 last that the residents of Essa Goth were also offered plots in Khuda Ki Basti phase-III (Taisar Town) in case they vacated their plots in this village, however this proposal was also rejected by them.
After protracted negotiations, the villagers agreed to the redevelopment of Essa Goth if at least 100 families were given plots of 60 square yards each. The remaining seven families were said to be accommodated in the flats constructed on 1000 square yards.
It was suggested at the GB meeting that some reputed builders be involved to get the plot vacated and raise the construction thereon. However, after threadbare discussion, it was decided that another effort may be made to accommodate the dwellers in multi-storeyed flats. In this regard, the SKAA was asked to arrange a meeting between the representatives of the dwellers and City Nazim and DCO, Karachi.—PPI
