HYDERABAD, June 27: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) has demanded the removal of the vice chancellor of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam.
The Federation appealed to the president to constitute a high-level committee, headed by a high court judge, to probe into the irregularities committed by the VC.
The demand came at the general body meeting of the FAPUASA, which perused report of the president of the Sindh Agriculture University Teachers Association.
The meeting noted that the attitude of the vice chancellor was negative and discriminatory with the representatives of teachers and they were subjected to victimization and were implicated in false cases.
It observed that due to the mismanagement of the vice chancellor the enrolment of students dropped from 1200 to 150 and new classes could not be started. The strength of the faculty was also reduced.
It urged the vice chancellor to refrain from victimizing and implicating the representatives of teachers and demanded the withdrawal of show-cause notices, issued to teachers.
The meeting suggested that while awarding the productivity allowance, the government should include contributions in local journals otherwise, it said, the quality of local journals would deteriorate even further.
The meeting said the supervision of M.Phil/Ph.D should also be considered in determining the productivity allowance and ambiguities and discrimination should be eliminated in this regard.
The meeting demanded to provide adequate medical and other facilities to university teachers, according to rules, framed by the federal government.
It said that orderly allowance should be provided to serving and retired professors at the rate which was not less than salary of class IV employee.
The meeting said qualified persons should also be given advantages and added that Ph.D should not be the only criterion for appointment to the posts of associate professor and professor.
It demanded that the alternate criterion passed by the syndicate of the University of Peshawar should be adopted by all universities of the country.
