LAHORE, June 23: Raging favourite bay horse Admiral’s Way justified the confidence reposed by his connections, winning the feature event of the Lahore Gymkhana races run over 900 metres at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Admiral’s Way ridden superbly by jockey Aamer Parvez, defeated Sarfrosh by half-a-length with Half Love third , two lengths further behind while Great Grandy completed the frame, another one-and-a-half length back. In all, ten ran for this sixth and last event of the day.
A race earlier raging favourite Al Zarrar deceived the racing fans once again finishing three lengths behind front runner Lucky Credit Queen in the supporting event. The four-year-old grey colt Al Zarrar with jockey Aamer Parvez in the saddle did not show any spark of his previous outing two weeks ago when he was beaten in the same company over an identical distance of 900 metres. Al Zarrar’s stable has reputation that theirs favourites seldom win.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards cancelled the second race of the day’s card because of paucity of runners. With the last- minute withdrawal of the bay mare Turn On, only four acceptors were left-in the field. Under the LRC rules the race had to be declared void.
The LRC stewards changed at least six riders of the mounts which they suspected were not sent to perform on merit on Sunday. Strangely enough hardly only one of them could manage to appear on the board while the other five finished among also ran.
