LAHORE, Oct 7: The JUI and Jamaat-i-Islami heads on Sunday night condemned the American airstrikes on Afghanistan, fearing that these might have killed innocent people.

JUI(F) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman, in a statement here on Sunday night, condemned the strikes and termed it barbarism. He said this was not the first instance of American barbarism as it had repeatedly been attacking humanity in the past.

He said his party would fight shoulder to shoulder with Taliban and defeat America, asking his partymen to start staging demonstrations against America all over the country from Monday.

Jamat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad termed the airstrikes a cowardly act reflecting the moral bankruptcy of the American administration.

The JI chief asked the government of Pakistan to immediately distance itself from the late-night operation. He said that a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference should be convened to discuss the US move.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that it was unfair on the part of the US administration to let loose a reign of terror on the innocent people of Afghanistan in the aftermath of Sept 11 incidents.

ISLAMABAD: Acting president Pakistan Muslim League Makhdoom Javed Hashmi condemned US attacks on Afghanistan and said that whole region has now become a war zone.

Talking to Dawn the PML acting president said that the United States have opted violence to counter violence that would surely breed more violence.

He said that the United States should have shown restrain in taking such an extreme step as it had now become a party to war instead of playing the role of a world leader.

He said that the war would not be restricted to Afghanistan only but spread to its neighbours as well.

ASLAM BEG: Former Chief of Army Staff Gen Mirza Aslam Baig reacting to the US attacks in Afghanistan said it showed the United States wanted a safe operation to avoid Taliban retaliation through missile and anti-aircraft guns.

Talking to Dawn the former COAS said that US attack was expected and this could have happened much earlier. He said that airstrikes have started and now they will use missile attacks and Northern Alliance would be strengthened to gain some areas.

The general said that Taliban possessed missile and anti- aircraft guns which could be used effectively in case attacks were carried out in the day light. The Americans have chose night for attacks because Taliban would not be as effective with their missiles and anti-aircraft guns.
