KARACHI, June 20: The Sindh government has allocated Rs297.846 million for the health sector for the fiscal year 2002-2003.
For the last fiscal year, the budget estimate for the health sector was Rs258.89 million.
Under the Non-Social Action Programme, Rs213.73 million has to be disbursed among general hospitals, teaching hospitals, district hospitals and other health-care outlets.
At least Rs34.415 million has been allocated for medical education.
The breakup of the allocation is as follows: Rs179.315 million for general hospitals, Rs70.497 million for teaching hospitals, Rs48.172 million for district hospitals and Rs60.646 million for other hospitals. At least Rs32.108 million has been allocated for Taluka hospitals and Rs9.775 million for PHC administration or training. Last year, the Sindh government had allocated Rs4.368 million for the same head.
The Sindh government has earmarked Rs266.27 million for projects falling under the Social Action Programme. These include Rs61.290 million for primary health care facilities, Rs26.953 million for rural health centres, Rs17.023 million for basic health units, Rs6.114 million for dispensaries/other centres/units and Rs11.2 million for urban health centres/units.
According to the budget document, Rs91.247 million has been allocated for preventive programmes, Rs10,000 million for health foundation and Rs9,850 million for the completion of ongoing schemes.
The budget document further explains that the Sindh government will spend Rs110.665 million on 15 ongoing schemes of general hospitals. Out of the 15 ongoing schemes, four are that of teaching hospitals, three of district hospitals and eight of other hospitals.
Similarly, the Sindh government will spend Rs68.65 million on nine new schemes. Out of the nine new schemes, seven are that of teaching hospitals, one of district hospital and one of other hospital.
The Sindh government will also spend Rs19.415 million on three ongoing schemes of medical education.
It will also spend Rs15 million on two new schemes of medical education.
Rs22.608 million has been allocated for four ongoing projects of Taluka hospitals. Rs9.5 million has been allocated for one new project of Taluka hospital.
