HANGU, June 18: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has decided to wind up its registration offices in three districts of the Frontier province, including Hangu, and merge them with the offices in the nearby districts.

The residents of Hangu have criticized the decision as they say the shifting of these registration office to Kohat would create many difficulties for them.

The other two districts where registration offices would be closed are Shangla and Dir.

The district Nazim, Pir Haider Ali Shah, has come under pressure from his electorate to save the Hangu office from being shifted. He has initiated efforts to stop the closing of the office.

The district registration officer, when contacted, confirmed that a decision on closing three district offices had been taken at the Nadra’s provincial authorities. He said that the Hangu office established in a rented building, confronted problems of funds shortage and telephone facility. The rent of the office building, which is Rs5,000 a month, could not be paid for four months, he said, adding that the landlord served a notice on the office to vacate the building.
