KARACHI, June 18: Police shot dead an alleged motorcycle hijacker on Alamgir Road on Tuesday in, what they claimed, an encounter.

Police claimed that two armed men hijacked a motorcycle (KAP-1411) near Civic Centre.

Police were informed on phone No 15. A police mobile of New Town police station chased the suspects. Near National College on Alamgir Road, the suspects tried to escape by opening fire at the police party. Police returned the fire injuring one of the suspects identified as Allah Bakhsh, aged 35. His accomplice escaped.

Allah Bakhsh was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died.

Police claimed to have recovered the hijacked motorcycle and a pistol, with several rounds, from the dead man’s possession.

A young man who was shot and wounded on late Monday night, died in a hospital on Tuesday.

Police said Mohammed Danish Naqvi, aged 28, was driving his motorcycle in Azizabad Block-2 when an unidentified motorcyclist opened fire on him and escaped.

Danish was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Later, he was admitted to a private hospital, where he died. He worked with State Bank of Pakistan.

His funeral prayers took place at Imambargah Khairul Amal, and he was buried in Wadi-i-Husain graveyard on Super Highway on Tuesday night.

ACCIDENT: Three persons died in a road accident near Steel Town on late Monday night.

Police said a Suzuki FX car (F-6283) carrying three persons rammed into a stationary NLC truck (2025-6) near Steel Town. As a result, Zafar, aged 28, and Mohammed Fazal, aged 30, died on the spot. The other injured person was rushed to the JPMC, where he died on Tuesday.

CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — four cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Two others were stolen.

Five motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered two cars and four motorcycles in the city.

DIES OF BURNS: v A fourteen-year-old boy died of burns in a hospital on Tuesday.

Police said Nasir suffered burns when a cooking stove burst in the kitchen of his house at Niaz Manzil, North Nazimabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died.

THREAT: A dismissed factory worker, who had tied a bomb fitted with a timer device with a strap to his chest, tried to kidnap his former employer and threaten to blow himself up in SITE on Tuesday morning.

Police said Mohammed Abbas, aged 20, was dismissed from his job by his employer, Aijaz Latif.

On Tuesday morning Abbas intercepted Latif when he was coming in his car (ACH-325) to his factory and occupied the front seat and took out a dagger.

A traffic police official, Ismail, saw this and stopped the car by blocking the vehicle by his motorcycle. He intervened and after a brief scuffle overpowered Abbas. When police searched him, a bomb tied round his chest with a strap and connected with a timer device was found.

The Bomb Disposal Squad was called, which disconnected the device.

Latif was injured and he was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
