Azam Tariq’s remand not extended

LAHORE, June 17: An anti-terrorism court on Monday refused to extend physical remand of banned SSP president Azam Tariq in a case accusing him of authoring provocative material and ordered police to put up a complete challan by June 24.

While sending Azam Tariq on judicial remand, the court observed that the prosecution was not entitled to keep Azam in further custody since the former had failed to convince the court on this account. “Perusal of police record produced before the court suggests that further physical custody of the accused will be against the law of justice,” the court observed.

On June 12, Azam was arrested by Lahore police on charges of authoring two books titled “Toot gaye zanjeer” and “Mera jurm kiya hai” containing provocative matter. —Reporter
