KARACHI: Five cars, 11 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, June 17: Sixteen vehicles — five cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, police said.

Three cars were hijacked. Two others were stolen.

Five motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Monday to have recovered six cars and two motorcycles in the city.

ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Sunday and Monday.

A four-year-old boy, Moosa, and his mother, Sabeen, aged 22, were knocked down by a speeding minibus when they were waiting for the bus at a bus stop in Khawaja Ajmair Nagri on late Sunday night.

They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the boy died. His mother was admitted to the hospital.

The minibus escaped after the accident.

A woman and man were run over by a train near Drigh Road railway station on Sunday night.

Police said Bakht Bibi, aged 30, was walking across the railway tracks when her foot got stuck in the tracks. A passerby, Shabbir Ahmed, tried to rescue her. But both of them came under the wheels of a train and died.

The bodies were sent to the JPMC for postmortem.

An unidentified young man died in a road accident in Sharifabad on Monday.

Police said an unidentified young man was run over by an unidentified speeding vehicle while walking across the main road near Liaquat flyover.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died.
