LAHORE, Dec 19 Abdul Qadir Gilani, son of Prime Minister Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani is a candidate for the office of President Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation, for which elections are going to be held at Islamabad on Saturday.
The general body of the federation will elect the new office-bearers.
The name of Qadir, a member of the Punjab Assembly, has been proposed from one of the groups, contesting the elections, and headed by Waqar Maroof (NWFP). The other group headed by Mohammad Akram belongs to Sindh. It is said that Akram was also a candidate for
President but he had withdrawn his papers.
The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) election commission headed by Justice Khawaja Farooq Saeed will conduct the elections. The other members of the commission are Abdul Khaliq Khan, Major (retd.) Mohammad Afzal, S.M Sibtain.
A representative of the Pakistan Sports Board will also monitor the elections.
Affiliated units of the federation are all four provincial boxing associations, Army, Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Railways and a representative of the referees and judges commission.
Affiliated organizations of PBF have the right to nominate two representatives to the General Body meeting of the federation.
