Over Rs2bn for works, housing schemes

ISLAMABAD, June 16: The government has earmarked an amount of Rs2.253 billion for different projects of housing and works for the current fiscal year, according to the budget 2002-2003.

A sum of Rs31.227 million has been allocated for housing and works division, Rs1.092 billion for civil works, Rs1.108 billion for Estate Office and Rs21.816 for federal lodges.

Besides a sum of Rs385.647 million has been allocated under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

Some of the projects include: Renovation of gutted Shaheed-i-Millat secretariat, which has been included in the new schemes of PSDP and will be executed at a cost of Rs100 million.

An amount of Rs38.923 million has been allocated for the construction of office buildings for ministry of environment, local government and rural development, Rs six million for construction of office of DG PPWD, Islamabad, Rs20 million for construction of FPSC building, Rs20 million for construction of residences for federal government employees in CE Staff Colony, Rs25 million for construction of flats, Rs30 million for construction of 5,160 houses for federal government employees from grade 1 to 22 and Rs17.412 million for construction of 5,160 flats for federal government employees.

The document said no foreign aid had been sought for financing all new and on-going schemes during the current fiscal year.

Other new schemes which will be introduced in the budget 2002-2003 under the PSDP include laying of pipeline of deep well turbine and pumping set at income tax building Lahore at a cost of Rs2.143 million.

The on-going schemes include construction of residential colonies and offices for different sections of housing and works division in various parts of the country.

According to the budget document an amount of Rs31.227 million has been allocated for housing and works division for the current year against Rs19.773 million spent last year.

For housing and works division, an amount of Rs7.642 million has been earmarked for officers’ pay, Rs10.669 million has been allocated for salary of other, Rs3.371 million for regular allowances, Rs1.035 million for other allowances, Rs208 million for purchase of goods, Rs0.800 million for maintenance of goods and works, Rs6.672 million for commodities and services and Rs0.100 million for miscellaneous expenditure.

A sum of Rs1.092 million has been allocated for civil works in the budget 2002-2003. Last year an amount of Rs930 million was spent for civil works.

Out of total allocation for civil works for the year 2002- 2003, a sum of Rs71.893 million has been earmarked for pay of officers, Rs150.830 million has been allocated for pay of other staff, Rs51.021 million for regular allowances, Rs1.277 million for other allowances, Rs11.812 million for purchase of goods, Rs6.910 million for construction works, Rs591.539 million for maintenance of goods and works, Rs207.536 million for commodities and services and Rs0.020 million for transfer of payment.

An amount of Rs1.108 billion has been earmarked for the estate office for the current year against Rs1.069 billion allocated last year.

Out of total allocation, a sum of Rs5.261 million has been earmarked for officers’ pay, Rs15.738 million for other staff members, Rs3.850 million for regular allowances, Rs0.168 million for other allowances, Rs0.070 million for purchase of goods, Rs0.363 million for maintenance of goods and works, Rs1.082 billion for commodities and services and Rs0.010 million for transfer of payments.

For the federal lodges, an amount of Rs21.816 million has been allocated for the current year, as against a sum of Rs18.697 million spent last year.

Of current year’s total allocation, a sum of Rs0.309 million has been earmarked for officers’ pay, Rs13.713 million for other staff, Rs4.405 million for regular allowances, Rs0.109 million for other allowances, Rs0.039 million for purchase of goods, Rs0.298 million for maintenance of goods and works, Rs2.943 million for commodities and services.
