PESHAWAR, June 16: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has agreed to provide fund to All Women Advancement and Resources Development (AWARD), a local NGO, for political education programme in the Frontier province.

This was stated by Maimuna Masood Khan, chief executive of AWARD, while announcing political campaign for the nine regions of NWFP at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Saturday.

She said the purpose of the campaign was to involve the local populace in a process, including political empowerment of the women in the coming general election.

She said that initially AWARD would focus nine NWFP regions, including Kohat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Batgram, Mardan, Swat, Swabi, Dir and Chitral, while Peshawar had been selected as headquarters for planning the programme of community education.

Speaking about mass media’s help in its education programme, she said that since the 1994 general election the turnout was on the decline due to little interest shown by the masses in the democratic process.
