ISLAMABAD, June 12: Grand Democratic Alliance on Monday demanded that the military government should refrain from amending the Constitution and leave the task for the elected parliament.

Briefing newsmen after presiding over a GDA meeting at his party’s office, Pakistan Muslim League (Junejo) leader Hamid Nasir Chattha said the heads of all the component parties present unanimously decided to turn the alliance into an electoral coalition and contest the polls with the same symbol.

Asked about the future of GDA if his party merged with other PML factions, Chattha said: “We will discuss and ensure that the components of the alliance have some sort of understanding with the unified league in the elections.”

HE SAID: “We believe the coming polls will be very significant to change the future set up in the country and all steps should be taken for making them fair, free and transparent.”

He said the alliance’s representatives could meet the government representatives and the election commissioner in this regard.
