LARKANA, June 11: The Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Tuesday released eight persons who were detained illegally at the Mahota police station.
A court official, Manzoor Phulpoto, on Monday raided the police station and discovered that Ghulam Mustafa, Qasiar Khan, Hassan Narijo, Abdul Sattar, Shaman Ali, Roshan Jatoi, Allahwarayo Narijo and Riaz Chandio were kept there in illegal detention.
They were produced in the court on Tuesday where Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi released them with the orders to the in charges of the Mahota police station and Akil police picket to appear before the court on June 13, the next day of hearing, along with documents, if they had, regarding the arrest of the eight persons.
Meanwhile, a raiding team of the SHC bench on Tuesday found Mohammed Saleh Abro, 60, illegally detained in a mosque by the taluka police station.
Altaf Chandio, the raid commissioner, did not found Abro, who was arrested from Baqapur village on June 9, when he searched the lock up of the police station.
The detainee told the raid commissioner that ASI Ashraf Lashari and head constable Mumtaz Siyal had severely tortured him.
The court official told Dawn that the police did not show any documents verifying the arrest of Abro. The SHO was asked to appear before the court along with the detainee on June 12.
Abro was released on personal bond.
