RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: Gladiators earned a narrow 8-7 victory over Remount 8-7 in the Brink’s Cup polo tournament at the Rawalpindi Polo Club on Tuesday.
In the two low-goal (0-3 goal) matches of the day, ASC and Remount “B” recorded victories over Bahawalpur and Floydian respectively.
In the high-goal (0-6 goal) match between Gladiators and Remount, Arsalan Najeeb scored three goals while Maj Gen Khalid Naeem Chughtai and Capt. Asif Yar Tiwana had two goals each for Gladiators. Sawar Ahmed slammed one goal.
For Remount, Maj Asif Zahoor drove home three goals.
The remaining scorers were: Sawar Abdur Rehman (2), Farooq Khalid Chughtai (1) and Khurshid Ahmed (1).
ASC, playing with an half goal advantage, beat Bahawalpur by six-and-a-half goals to four in the low-goal match.
For ASC, Brig Ulfat Hussain shot home three goals, followed by Shayan Abbasi (2) and Capt Mohammad Sami Itrat (1).
Lt Col Tariq Ahmed (2) and Ahsan Gulraiz and Asif Ahmed (one each) reduced the margin for Bahawalpur.
In an another low-goal match, Remount were too good for Floydian, who were in with a one-and-a-half goal advantage, in their victory by 6-2 1/2.
Manzoor Hussain Shah and Muhammad Yaqub rounded off two goals each for the winners while the remaining goals were shared by Brig. Shabbir Ahmed Kiani and Bilal Ehtesham (one each).Munib Shah had the sole reply for the losers.—APP
