IT institute in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, Oct 30: Punjab Finance Minister Tariq Hamid has announced that an information technology institute will be established in Gujranwala.

Speaking at a function here on Tuesday, the minister said initially the institute would be up to intermediate level and teachers would be given training in the second shift.

He said the finance commission set up by the Punjab government for the distribution of development funds among district governments had completed its task. The funds would be released by Dec 31 for the completion of uplift projects, he said.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated Maryam Begum Ward constructed at a cost of Rs1 million at the Rafiq Anwar Memorial Hospital. He also visited various departments and wards of the hospital and applauded facilities being provided to the patients by the hospital administration.

ULTIMATUM: Activists of the Jamaat-i-Islami and the Islami Jamiat Talaba have threatened to agitate throughout the division if police fail to arrest the killers of student leader Naeem Bhatti within 24 hours.

At a meeting held here on Tuesday, JI district amir Prof Obaidul Rehman Madni and other leaders expressed their concern over the killing of the student leader in Satellite Town by the rival student organization some three days ago.
