PESHAWAR, June 8: Ex-minister of state and a veteran leaguer Muhammad Unis Elahi has said that security conference at Almaty has demonstrated the correctness of Pakistan’s policy on Kashmir issue.

Talking to APP here on Saturday, Unis Elahi, who is also a former Chairman of Pakistan-Russia Forum, said the world leaders have now understood that panacea to all ills concerning the Kashmir issue is giving the right of self-determination to the people of held Kashmir.

Almaty conference proved a diplomatic success for Pakistan as the participant countries stressed on India during the course of the conference to show a flexible attitude towards Pakistan’s peace initiative, he said.

Moreover, Russia, which has remained a close ally of India since partition of the subcontinent, also urged Indian leadership to sit on the negotiating table with Pakistan for an amicable settlement of the core issue, he added.

Another big achievement scored by Pakistan at the Almaty moot is the invitation extended by Moscow to both Pakistan and India for a dialogue to defuse the tension in the region. India could not turn down the request because of its close relations, he observed.

He was optimistic about the positive outcome of the proposed Moscow talks and said that the situation may change in the region for the better.—APP
