KARACHI, June 7: Sindh Ombudsman Justice (retd) Khaziqul Haziqul Khairi has taken a suo motu notice of the reported irregularities in allotment of government residential accommodations in the city since out-of-turn allotments were made to favour certain government employees, usurping the right of others who had earlier applied for allotment.

A press release issued by the office of the ombudsman on Friday said that the Estate Department of the Sindh government had conceded that allotment orders in some cases were not issued on the basis of priority of applications date-wise.

However, the policy governing the allotment of residential accommodation did provide for the exercise of discretion on administrative grounds and also in hardship cases for reasons to be recorded in writing to the extent of ten per cent of residences in each category.

The Estate Department has furnished a list of applications as well as the list of bungalows and flats belonging to the provincial government, which were occupied by government servants.
