KARACHI, June 6: The government has initiated a number of steps aimed at bringing about improvements in the education.

This was stated by the principal secretary to the governor of Sindh, Brig Akhtar Zamin, while talking to a delegation of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association here on Thursday.

Brig Zamin said that for the improvement of the educational institutions, directives had been issued for the preparation of an academic calendar, a constant system of monitoring of the academic performance of the students, research facilities for the teachers, upgradation of courses after every three years in order to update them and a drive against illegal coaching centres besides ridding the educational institutions of outside interference.

The delegation told the secretary about their demands that included 800 pending cases of promotion of college teachers and some 300 move-overs.
