ABBOTTABAD, May 5: Dr Syed Altaf Hussain, Vice-Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University, has said the coming era is to be dominated by IT technology, and only those equipped with the latest and advanced knowledge of this discipline will survive.

This he said while addressing as chief guest at the closing session of a two-day seminar on IT organized by the Swiss Computer College here at Jalal Baba Auditorium.

Dr Altaf said that all over the world, two types of systems are adopted for the education — one is direct and the second indirect. In the first case, students are required to attend the classes and get coaching from teachers but in the second, they have an open choice and can use multiple means to get the knowledge.

He said the AIOU is the second largest university of the world specializing in the second type, boasting a student enrolment of 356,000.

The VC said: “We are using the latest but cheaper means of education, especially in the field of computer technology.”
