RAWALPINDI, May 5: Two customs officials were arrested for possessing 95kg of charas near Golra, on Sunday.
The assistant director Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Rawalpindi, Capt Kamran, said an official vehicle (A-1383) coming from Peshawar was signalled to stop by ANF men on GT Road but it sped on. The ANF officials gave it chase and forced it to stop near Golra Mor.
The search of vehicle yielded 95kg of fine quality charas. The two uniformed occupants of the car, Mohammad Hayat and Nawaz Khan, employees of the Central Excise and Customs Peshawar, were arrested.
One of the accused has worked as a driver for an assistant collector while the other worked as a driver for an additional collector in the customs department.
An ANF official said the preliminary investigation had revealed that the arrested customs officials maintained only indirect communications with the person to whom the drug was to be delivered in Rawalpindi.
The ANF is nevertheless trying to trace a clue to the accomplices of these men.
Anti-Narcotics Force authorities said the involvement of other customs officials could not be ruled out.
The Attock police are also investigating the case.
