Five die as coach rams into truck

QUETTA, June 5: Five people were killed and 36 others injured, 12 of them seriously, when a coach rammed into a stationery truck on a main road near Kalat, some 200km south of here, late on Tuesday night.

As the Karachi-bound coach, coming from Quetta, reached near the village of Rodbahku, it crashed into the truck, while negotiating a turn.

Three passengers and the driver and cleaner of the coach died on the spot, while 36 other passengers received injuries.

Those died were named as Manzoor Hussain (driver), Ghulam Farooq (cleaner), Mohammad Qasim, Amir Mohammad and Pasand Khan.

Villagers and the local administration took the injured, including three women, to the Civil Hospital of Kalat. Twelve injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Quetta, in serious condition.

Liaquat Ali, one of the injured, told Dawn at the Civil Hospital of Quetta that the accident had occurred owing to speeding.
