Shamyl shines in Summer Cup

LAHORE, March  27: CSM trounced Rangers 9—1 1/2 with Shah Shamyl Alam scoring five goals inculding a hat trick for the winners in Summer Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club Wednesday.

In  another  match of the competition, WKF narrowly  beat  Nee Punhal by 4 1/2—4. Rangers had  advantage of half-a-goal on handicap  and  could score only one field goal during play through Col Talat Zia.

CSM  was on a goal-scoring spree. Shamyl converted both  30 yards penalty-hits during first chukker and another  one at start of second chukker. In fact, he scored both goals of  the second  chukker as well because he converted a spot penalty  near the goalpost before it ended.

Third chukker was also dominated by CSM. Agha Murtaza scored a field goal and Kamran Zaidi put in back-to-back field  goals. However, Col Talat Zia reduced the margin for Rangers 1 1/2—7 a little before the end of third chukker. Both goals of fourth chukker were scored by CSM. Agha  Murtaza scored  his  second field goal and Shamyl scored his  fifth  goal before CSM gained a clear win.

The second match was more keenly contested. WKF won by virtue of a half-a-goal handicap. For  WKF, Ahmad  Ali Tiwana scored two field goals and Mustafa  Tiwana  and Babar Monnoo put in a goal each. For Nee Punhal, Maula  Bakhsh scored three goals while Feroze Gulzar struck once.
