HYDERABAD, March 16: The commissioner of Social Security Sindh, Ameer Ali Burq, has said that about Rs350 millions are being spent to provide medical cover to the workers in Sindh this year.

He was speaking as chief guest at the concluding session of training workshop for the women workers registered at Kotri.

The seminar was organized by the management of social security at the office of the Kotri Association of Trade and industries (KATI) here on Friday.

He further said that the main objective of SESSI was to provide complete medical cover for which only 7 per cent employees’ salary was being contributed by the employer.

He said that four hospitals, five medical centres and 38 dispensaries were functioning in different parts of Sindh to provide medical facilities to the workers at their door step.

He added that those medical facilities which were not available at these centres were being provided to the workers at big hospitals such as the NICVD and Liaquat National Hospital Karachi.

Earlier, member Governing Body, Tariq Baloch, in his speech said that KATI was trying to work for the welfare of the workers.

NGOS: Presiding over a meeting of NGOs Ashfaq Memon called upon them to prepare feasibility plan whereby women’s status was improved.

The meeting discussed the issue of ‘Development and Empowerment of Women”.

Mr Memon said that the plans received from various districts would be considered and finalized by June 2002 so that they could be incorporated in the next year financial budget for implementation and funding purposes.

He announced the constitution of an 11-Member Steering Committee to be headed by Begum Haziq Ali chairperson APWA as its president.

The committee members’ first meeting will be held shortly and it has been given the task to formulate plans to be presented before the larger forum consisting of various NGOs of Hyderabad city in its meeting to be held on March 29.
