ADB loan to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, March 14: The Asian Development Bank has approved $200 million in loans to Sri Lanka, government officials here said on Thursday.

Government spokesman, G.L. Peiris told reporters that $85 million would be spent on the country’s run down power sector.

Sixty million dollars would be spent on improving road networks, while $20m would go to fisheries projects and $35m was set aside for plantation sectors, Peiris said. ADB President Tadao Chino visited Sri Lanka to officially open the Manilla-based lender’s resident mission here.—AFP
