Nisar sworn in as information minister

ISLAMABAD, March 5: Information Minister Nisar A. Memon said on Tuesday that Pakistan and the well being of the people would be his priorities.

“We will strive to promote the cause of truth and conviction and to effectively counter the propaganda carried out by our enemy,” he said talking to journalists after being sworn in at the Aiwan-i-Sadr as the information and media development minister. The oath was administered by President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

“My priorities will be the priorities of the country which are reflected in the policies of President Musharraf,” the minister said.

He said his priorities were to improve the condition of the country in socioeconomic terms, to provide better standard of living to people and to work towards peace in the region by creating an environment where conflicts were resolved through bilateral discussions. “Towards these ends the government has been working and those are the priorities which we in the ministry of information would like to project,” Mr Memon said.

He said improvement in human resources of the ministry through training, exposure and introduction of technology was needed.—APP
