ISLAMABAD, March 2: A two-member delegation of the European Commission to Pakistan met Chief Election Commissioner Irshad Hasan Khan here on Saturday and apprised itself of the preparations being made for the October elections.
“The Election Commission will act with neutrality, objectivity, impartiality and independence at every stage of the electoral process,” the CEC told European Union Ambassador Kurt Juul and Counsellor Pedro Martenez-Vargas.
The delegation was briefed on the process of preparation of electoral rolls, delimitation of constituencies, and other matters pertaining to the election during its meeting with the CEC that lasted over two hours.
Mr Khan, a retired chief justice, said that in order to demonstrate the credibility of the election process foreign observers, particularly the representatives of the National Democratic Institute of United States, European Union and Commonwealth, would be welcomed to determine the transparency of the election process.
Mr Juul appreciated the efforts that the CEC had made for the preparation of electoral rolls.
