TELFORD (England): Feb 16: Shaun Murphy, world snooker’s Newcomer of the Year, made a blistering start to take the first five frames before Cheshire’s Dyson battled back to within one frame at 8-7. But the 19-year-old from Irthlingborough held his nerve and goes through to play Jamie Burnett tomorrow.
Breaks of 101, 105, 74, 51 and 49 put Murphy 5-0 up and he looked set to take the sixth before breaking down on 65. World No 51 Dyson got the snooker he needed then made an excellent 62 clearance.
That gave him heart and he won six of the next nine frames with a top break of 71. But Murphy knocked in an 86 to go two up with three to play and finished off the match in a scrappy 17th frame.
Young Welshman Ryan Day edged through 10-8 against another of this season’s star players-Mark Davis.

Day played in the Wembley Masters last week, beating Dave Harold 6-3 before losing to Stepehn Hendry 6-0.
