KARACHI, Feb 3: The Secretary-General of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Mairaj Mohammed Khan, has condemned the baton charge on a lawyers’ procession in Lahore.

In a statement, he said lawyers had taken out a procession to protest against the amendment to the Anti-terrorism Act of 1997 making provision for the appointment of army officers along with judges for special courts.

He pointed out that the setting up of special courts parallel to ordinary courts was tantamount to reducing the status and importance of civil courts, particularly of high courts and the Supreme Court.

JI: Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, the chief of the JI Karachi, condemning the police baton charge on the lawyers’ procession, said the military rulers by using base tactics wanted to deprive lawyers of their democratic and fundamental right.
