GUJRANWALA, Feb 10: Three friends, including an expatriate, were killed in a road accident near Kamoki on Thursday.
Yaser alias Chand Butt, returned from Holland recently, was coming back from Lahore by a rented car (GAS-202) along with his friends Adnan (33) and Idris Gujjar (32). Near Salar village on the GT Road, their vehicle skidded off the road due to rain and rammed into a roadside tree. Consequently, they all died on the spot. The deceased friends were the residents of Naushera Road.
The Motorway police handed over the bodies and their belongings to their heirs through Kamoki police.
DEMO: Residents of various localities in Shaheenabad union council on Thursday took out a protest rally against Wasa for its failure to clean the sewerage system.
Led by union council Nazim Mian Attiqur Rehman, the protesters paraded the GT Road. They were also carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Wasa.
Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim said that he had repeatedly apprised the authorities concerned of the poor state of sewerage system, but to no avail. The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
WATER CHANNELS: Around 782 cemented water channels will be built with an expenditure of Rs327 million in Gujranwala district during four years under president's national programme.
The decision was taken here on Thursday in a joint meeting of the district administration and agriculture department with DCO Fazeel Asgher in the chair. Senior officers of revenue and agricultural departments were also present on the occasion.
The meeting was told that some 131 cemented water channels would be constructed during the current fiscal with a sum of Rs54 million and 217 each during fiscal years 2005-6, 2006-7 and 2007-8 with an amount of Rs90 million each.
Meanwhile, the Wasa also prepared 25-year master plan for the construction of sewerage system at a cost of Rs500 million which would be completed in three phases.
