LAHORE, Feb 6: MMA president Qazi Husain Ahmad has convened a meeting of the supreme council of the six-party religious alliance in Islamabad on Feb 14.
The present political situation and future strategy of the alliance will atop agenda of the meeting, says a press release issued here on Sunday.
The MMA is facing an uphill task of forcing Gen Musharraf to wear off his military dress as promised by him when it entered into an agreement with the ruling PML in Dec, 2003, in return for helping the government amend the constitution to legalize all steps and orders issued by the army dictator since Oct 12, 1999. But Gen Musharraf backed out of his promise of shedding his uniform by Dec 31, 2004, robbing the religious alliance of the justification it had been boasting of and citing for passing the 17th amendment.
For face saving, the MMA has been threatening to launch a drive for forcing Gen Musharraf even to quit power but so far it has confined itself to some insignificant public meetings, postponing (read avoiding) any direct action like sits-in against the army ruler.
