KARACHI, Dec 4: The city was buzzing with activities of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers, who were criss-crossing every nook and corner on motorbikes with party flag , reminding people to attend Sunday's public meeting in Nishtar Park which would be telephonically addressed by Muttahida chief Altaf Hussain.

Theme of the public meeting would be "Peace and stability leads to progress and prosperity". The Muttahida had given the call for holding a public meeting to demonstrate its power and claim of being the "true" representative of Karachiites.

The flags of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement are fluttering on every electric pole of the city's thorough fare while banners inscribed with the ideas of Altaf Hussain and his efforts for promoting peace and amity between estranged South Asian neighbours have been hoisted at every vantage point.

In Nishtar Park, a huge make-shift stage has been set up with elaborate arrangement for the media. Huge party flags and Altaf Hussain's picture could be seen all over the ground where the MQM cadre had been entrusted the job of ensuring orderly entry into the ground and dispersal after the event was over.

Extensive lighting has turned the ground into a carnival place. Organizers were seen busy in ensuring that public address system was properly installed and tested and could cater to the people, who the organizers feel would spill over the venue. MQM units have also illuminated various buildings in the city on the eve of the public meeting.

While announcing the decision to hold a public meeting at Nishtar Park on December 5 at 3pm, the deputy convenor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Dr Farooq Sattar had declared that his party had decided to confront those forces who according to him were allegedly trying to sabotage the present democratic dispensation.
