ISLAMABAD, Nov 27: Fifth seed Wajid Ali Chaudhry of Pakistan gained sweet revenge on India's Mishra Ustev on Saturday to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Asian Satellite international badminton tournament at the Liaquat Gymnasium.

Wajid unleashed a fine array of strokes and was just too quick on his feet as he won 15-7, 15-8 in a hotly-contested match played in the evening.

The victory meant that Wajid made up for his loss to the same player when Pakistan toured India recently.

While Wajid provided cheer to the home camp, three other home players were knocked out in the pre-quarterfinals.

Seven pre-quarterfinals had been played till the filing of this report with top seed Ikeda Yuichi of Japan defeating Waseem Ismail 15-6, 15-5 and Indonesian Adnan Fauzi thrashing Hashir Bashir 15-4, 15-6.

Shabbar Hussain Syed was the other Pakistani player to bow out going down to Nepal's Panera Pashupati 15-13, 6-15, 12-15.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals was India's JBS Vidyadhar who got a walkover against Iran's Ali Shah Hussain. Indonesian Jeffer Rosobin secured his berth with a 15-8, 15-6 victory over Iran's Eskandare Jalal and his team-mate downed Iranian Fouad Naber Zadeh 15-7, 15-2.

The women's singles quarterfinals meanwhile were to be played late in the evening featuring only two Pakistani girls Uzma Butt and Ayesha Akram.

Four of the host nation's players -Sara Khan, Saima Manzoor, Sadia Arshad and Palwasha Rasheed - were all shown the door by their Indian opponents in the pre-quarterfinals.

BR Meenakshi walloped Sara 11-1, 11-2 and Aditi Biswas hammered Saima 11-0, 11-1. Sadia was then thrashed 11-1, 11-0 by Sharada Gowardini and Dhanya Nair completed the rout with a 11-1, 11-1 win against Palwasha.
