KARACHI, Nov 20: The Karachi Electronics Dealers' Association has prepared software to detect stolen mobile phone sets for discouraging the trading of stolen or snatched sets.
In a press statement here on Saturday, the KEDA secretary information Shahid Ali Sehr said that the software was got prepared by computer experts and the system was called a mobile tracking system. It would definitely help reduce mobile phone snatching and stealing as after implementation of the system in the market, a carrier of the stolen set could be held with the help of police.
He said that the system was prepared in view of increasing incidents of snatching and stealing of mobile phone sets and their sale and resale in electronics market. He said that the system was being exercised at a very limited scale in the market on experimental basis so that flaws in the system, if any, could be removed.
Mr Shahid said that after the system was approved by the software experts in a few days, it would be formally introduced in the market. He said that the software was accessible through the Internet to the dealers who could verify the serial number of the mobile phone as to whether it was stolen or clear. As soon as the information was received about the stealing, the set would be jammed through its serial number.
He said the data warehouse would be like the motor registration database. He said the association was also trying to seek cooperation of the mobile phone dealers in this regard.
