KARACHI, Nov 8: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Monday said that industrialists, traders and philanthropists should play their vital role in combating rising unemployment in the city.
Speaking at a ceremony held to distribute dowry among 100 poor girls at the premises of the CDGK stores, he said that unfortunately many girls could not get married due to lack of dowry in our society.
The number of jobless youths was increasing in the city, he added.
Naimatullah Khan said that those who had been blessed with wealth should contribute in the City Nazim Fund and share some of their wealth with the poor.
He assured the gathering that the city government would judiciously deliver the right of the poor to them.
In charge of the nazim's Fund, Rasheed Baig, made it clear that poor were not being helped out of the CDGK funds, but the city nazim had collected Rs10.12 million through his sheer personal efforts for the purpose.
He said with the fund, the unemployed youths had been provided wheel barrows, besides sewing machines to the needy women and dowry for poor girls.
District Officer Rehana Saif, chairperson, Education Committee, Rehana Afroze, Councillor Sajeela Mahar, Shahla Inayatullah, in-charge of the Fund, Abdul Rashid Baig and Nazir Mateen also spoke on the occasion.-PPI\APP
