KARACHI, Nov 7: The managing-director, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Iftikhar Haider, has said that thousands of gallons of water was being wasted everyday due to the leakages in the 48-inch-dia waterline passing through Liaquatabad Town, adding that severe problems were being faced in repairing the line due to the encroachments and residences built over it. However, he said, the KWSB was taking steps to repair the waterline through alternate procedures.
He was talking to engineers and the affected residents on Sunday during his visit to Sikandarabad, Bandhani Colony and Azam Nagar.
Technical services director Israr zaidi, Chief engineer Aasodomal and others were present on the occasion.
Brig Iftikhar said that the people living in the slum area had damaged the said line to get water illegally, and added that problems were being faced in undertaking the repairs due to constructions over the line.
He also visited the place where the line had developed a major leakage inside a house in Sikandarabad.
He ordered the engineers to take steps for repair of the line, and added that prior to this the leaked water be sucked through pumps and pushed back into the line.
He also directed the officials to plan shifting of the said waterline from the area, besides issuing orders for waterline repairs near Lyari Nullah. - PPI
