ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: The government has decided to entrust the ministry of commerce with the overall administrative responsibility of the proposed Pakistan Intellectual Property Rights Organization (Pipro).
An official announcement issued on Saturday said that till recently this responsibility had been assigned to the Cabinet Division.
This new organization will unify the working of the three existing intellectual property offices, which presently are working as attached departments of three different ministries.
Therefore, besides being administratively responsible for the Trade Marks Registry, the Patents Office and the Copyrights Office, Pipro will also deal with the new and emerging areas of intellectual property rights.
Previously Trade Marks Registry was being administered by ministry of commerce, patents office by ministry of industries and copy rights office by ministry of education.
