GUJRANWALA, June 2: Scores of employees of various government and semi-government departments on Sunday resented suspension of Lahore-Rawalpindi train stoppage in Gujranwala.

In a memorandum, they slammed the introduction of express train ‘Tipu Sultan.’

Starting at 7am, they said government employees and businessmen could reach their respective departments in time. However, they said with the suspension of stoppage facility, they would have to bear additional expenses travelling by buses.

They also expressed concern over raise in fare of the economy class and abolition of the seasonal ticket facility to the commuters.

They urged the railway authorities to restore the services of the train to facilitate them.

REDUCED TO ASHES: At least 3,000 sacks of rice worth Rs7 million were reduced to ashes on Sunday when fire broke out in a rice mill godown in Kamoki.

Reports said fire engulfed the entire consignment in the godown on the Abdullahpur Road. Short circuit was reported to be the cause of fire.
