KARACHI, July 24: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi, headed by Judge Arshad Noor Khan, on Saturday reserved judgment in a killing case against 10 activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan after hearing final arguments from both sides counsels.
SSP activists Mansoor Ali Babar, Umer Hayat, Karimullah, Ahmed Zahoor, Hafiz Ahmed Bux, Syed Asif Ali, Muhammad Fazil, Khawaja Saleemuddin, Atiqur Rehman and Ishtiaq Ali are charged with killing three persons and injuring seven others by firing on Feb 4, 1995, in Gulberg area Karachi.
According to prosecution, accused attacked a club in Gulberg area and opened fire on people who were playing there.
Defence counsel argued that their clients were implicated in the case. They contended that neither the accused were identified by any witness, nor any evidence was found against them.
Special Public Prosecutor submitted that the complainant and the eyewitnesses did not turn up before court as they have left their houses and they cannot be traced. He prayed the court to decide the case keeping in view the evidences.
The judge after hearing the closing arguments fixed July 27 for announcement of the verdict.
Special Public Prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa appeared for the state while S M Iqbal, M R Syed, advocates, are representing the defence side.
HEARING ADJOURNED: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Saturday adjourned hearing of a killing case against Amir Khan, general secretary of the MQM-Haqiqi and others after recording statement of witness.
MQM's general secretary and its activist Mohammad Tariq are being tried on charge of killing two activists of their rival group Muttahida Qaumi Movement on June 23, 2003.
According to prosecution, an FIR was lodged at Landhi police station in which it was alleged that Amir Khan, with others killed two Muttahida's activists Mohammad Naeem and Anam Uzair in byelections of National Assembly constituency NA-255.
A doctor of Agha Khan Hospital, who treated Mohammad Naeem, recorded his statement before court. He said Naeem was shifted in an injured condition but succumbed to injuries on next day.
Judge Feroz Mehmood Bhatti of ATC-II, who is conducting trial in Central jail Karachi, fixed July 28 for deposition of further prosecution witnesses.
ACQUITTED: Additional District and Sessions Judge, East, Abdul Malik on Saturday acquitted six accused belonging to MQM-Haqiqi in a dacoity case.
The accused were Abid alias Mota, Aurangzeb, Zeeshan alias Munna, Wajid Mirza, Babar alias Nai and Abdul Rehman.-PPI/ APP
