Meanwhile, talking to reporters at the cafeteria of the Parliament House on Thursday evening, PML-N MNA Tehmina Daultana said after disclosures of former US president Bill Clinton, Gen Anthony Zinni and former US deputy secretary of state Strobe Talbott, it had become clear that Nawaz Sharif was unaware of the Kargil operation.

The PML-N MNA said Nawaz Sharif was informed about Gen Musharraf's Kargil plan on telephone by former US President Bill Clinton, who also provided an audio tape of the conversation of two Pakistani generals discussing Kargil on telephone. She claimed that not only Nawaz Sharif, but former air force chief and naval chief were also not aware of the launching of Kargil operation.

She said the army chief had launched a military operation which could even trigger a nuclear war without informing the prime minister.

Ms Daultana claimed that more troops were killed in the Kargil incident than in the wars of 1965 and 1971. She said Pakistan received a large number of body bags but facts were hidden from the general public. She said the postmortem reports of the dead soldiers showed that they had eaten grass due to non- availability of food.

The PML-N leader said Nawaz Sharif announced withdrawal of army from Kargil when he was asked by Gen Pervez Musharraf to save the army. "Nawaz Sharif saved the army even after putting his own government in danger," she said.

Ms Daultana said that Mr Sharif was ready to appear before a commission on the issue. She also criticized the statement of Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in which he stated that Mr Sharif had been briefed on the Kargil issue.
