KARACHI, May 29: The City District Government Karachi has decided to prepare a traffic management plan for I I Chundrigar Road, one of the busiest of the city.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, who said a traffic management plan was needed for I I Chundrigar Road and other roads in order to reduce noise and air pollution.
The plan for the road would be reviewed at the office of DIG Traffic next month, after which it would be presented to the city nazim for approval, it was decided.
DIG Traffic Yameen Khan said 75 per cent of the traffic plying on I I Chundrigar Road were public transport vehicles, which were a source of pollution.
He further said that there were eight crossings from Tower to Shaheen Complex, but without any traffic signal.
The city nazim said there was also a need for considering a tramway system for improving traffic flow in populous-, trade- and commercial areas. DCO Mir Hussain Ali, EDO Works and Services Shoaib Siddiqui and District Officer Transport and Communication Hyder Ali were also present.
ZOO: The city district government has decided to purchase more animals for Karachi Zoo and Safari Park and an amount of Rs4.8 million has been allocated for the purpose.
Three female zebras, one pair of cassowary, six wallabies (two male, four female) and one raccoon will be purchased for the zoological garden while, four zebras (one female, three male) and one female water buck will be purchased for Safari Park.
EDUCATION: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that measures are being taken to improve the standard of education in the 4,500 primary and secondary schools and 90 colleges running under the city government, said City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Saturday.
Speaking as chief guest at a ceremony, organized by the Nazria Pakistan Foundation (NPF), in collaboration with city government's education department, to distribute merit scholarships, he said the city government had opened 10 new colleges and ensured water and electricity supply in schools through a comprehensive planning.
The city Nazim said steps taken in the past nearly destroyed education sector, due to which there was a perception now that government schools do not impart quality education.
But, he said, in the last matriculation examinations, numerous students of these schools achieved A-One grades and performed brilliantly in various competitions.
Saying that he was a part of the Pakistan movement as a worker, he regretted that the objective of getting a separate country could not be achieved.
"We must work for making Pakistan an Islamic welfare state and introduce the system that was presented by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Madina Munawarrah."
Mr. Khan said all the successive governments failed to make Pakistan an Islamic country. He urged the youngsters to strive for changing the system of the country and prove that Islamic society is better than other societies.
He said that Quran-o-Sunnah Academy has been established, under which Fehmul Quran programmes were started to inculcate Quranic teachings among citizens.
At the end, merit scholarships were given to students. DCO Mir Hussain Ali, convener NPF Nusrat Mirza and others also spoke.-PPI
