SUKKUR, April 17: The general council meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) has urged the federal government to dismiss the Sindh government for its failure to control law and order, joblessness and price hike.
The two-day meeting which ended on Saturday night was attended by hundreds of delegates, including JUI chief Fazlur Rehman, a majority of MNAs, MPAs and ministers belonging to Balochistan and NWFP.
A press statement distributed among the press said the general council meeting of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazal) was held under the chairmanship of its Sindh Ameer Maulana Abdul Samad Halejvi in the Madrassah Manzil Gah Sukkur on Friday.
The meeting reviewed in detail the yearly organizational progress presented by the district office-bearers while Sindh secretary-general Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro presented a detailed report which was termed as satisfactory.
The meeting expressed its concern over lawlessness and joblessness in Sindh.
The participants observed that the Sindh government had failed miserably to provide jobs to people and to control the ever-increasing lawlessness in Sindh, therefore, it had not right to continue in the government.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the Ummah faced unfavourable conditions while the imperialists wanted to eliminate it.
He said Afghanistan and Iraq were subjected to destruction by the US by fabricating baseless allegation against both the countries.
He said only united Ummah could face atrocities of the imperialists but our rulers instead of thinking about the united Ummah had become the ally of these anti-Muslim elements.
Criticizing Gen Musharraf, Maulana said at this specific juncture of the history, instead of extending cooperation to the Ummah he joined hands with the anti-Muslim elements.
He said the JUI tried its best to pull the Ummah out of these problems.
Later, the meeting unanimously passed the following resolutions, through which they demanded that the government should take efforts to control the law and order, joblessness and price hike in Sindh.
A resolution demanded that anti-Sindh projects, like Kalabagh dam and Thal canal, should be abandoned.
It demanded that strict action should be taken against elements who were behind the cancellation of Quranic Verses from the syllabus. The resolution demanded withdrawal of cases against MMA leaders including Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro and others.
